» Sarah B. Hood - Why all the season-enders with hospital shootups?
So what's the thing about season-enders featuring hospital shoot-ups (see both ER and Grey's Anatomy). Or maybe it's just an extension of the "one of our docs is laid up in our own hospital!" hook, as seen in House (Omar Epps and also Hugh Laurie), ER (John Leguizamo, Mekhi Phifer, Laura Innes, Paul McCrane and so on) and especially Grey's Anatomy (Sandra Oh's ectopic pregnancy; Chandra Wilson's delivery while her husband underwent brain surgery; TR Knight's syphillis and dislocated shoulder; James Pickens Jr's brain surgery; Kate Walsh's embarrassing rash, and now Isaiah Washington's GSW).» Kwoody3939 - Why all the season-enders with hospital shootups?
In response to Why all the season-enders with hospital shootups? posted by SarahBHood:I was wondering that too actually. I suppose there is only so much one can do in a static location like a hospital, but still. Also, I swear ER has had a shoot 'em before haven't they? As to "our Doc is in the hospital" you forgot to add Burke to that list! At least I assume he'll be admitted after being shot last night.
The show is set in a hospital, so people have to be in the hospital, is the way I see it. And if that person is one of our series regulars than the stakes go waaaaaay up, and we like big stakes in TV.
Here's a question for you: why all the school shootings in high school shows - One Tree Hill, Veronica Mars, those kids on The OC better duck for cover. (Or is that how Marissa dies? Hmm.....)

Hmmm... of course, the cop shows all feature shootups too, although the crisis is often about a regular character doing the shooting in that case. Must be an indication of the American unconscious; everybody's always afraid that gun violence may break out at any moment.Meanwhile, what a season-ender for Grey's Anatomy last night! Will Burke recover the full use of his hand? Will Meredith choose McDreamy or the dishy vet? Will Richard's marriage survive longer than his niece? Will George say 'I love you?' And will Izzie ever practise medicine again? Whew!

In response to Why all the season-enders with hospital shootups? posted by SarahBHood:Shoot em ups are always easier than someone running around stabbing a bunch of people. Shoot outs can involve everyone at one one time. Kinda like a bomb, which was the theme last season.
Who cares if Burke regains use of his hand? The real question is will he ever forgive Cristina for not being there for him? I think Meredith will choose neither Derek or Finn at first (pulling a Kelly on 90210 "I choose myself!"), but will eventually choose Derek. And Addison will hook up again with McSteamy, because the Grey's producers are bringing back Eric Dane. Yay! Callie is also coming back as a series regular, so I expect we'll see more of her and George.
Last I heard, Katie Heigle was still negotiating her contract, so...who knows if she'll come back. But my guess is yes, because she was lucky to get this job. I thought she did a great job last night, and almost wept when Alex picked her up.
And lets be honest, do we really care whether Richard's marriage lasts?

Great news about Callie; I really like her. I'd love to have Izzie back, but the writers are going to have to seriously suspend some disbelief for an ep or so to get us to buy that she'd be allowed to continue her internship after endangering a patient in order to defraud the tranplant board. That heart really should have gone to the nice guy with the two kids.I suspect the writers will hang fire for a long time about Mer/Der, partly because their unresolved status gives the show tension, and partly because they seem to like Addison. Truth to tell, I think I like her a lot better than McDreamy. I don't buy his puppy-dog eyes. I think he's a selfish rat.
Burke will forive Cristina if she really wants him to.
And I want Richard to stay married because I learned to like his wife when she was teaching at Boston Public.

In response to Why all the season-enders with hospital shootups? posted by SarahBHood:One can't help but like Loretta Devine. I totally agree about McDreamy - why exactly are we supposed to believe these two belong together? Seems to me that they were only having great sex. I didn't see any love, not really. And I really like Addison, but I don't think her relationship with Derek is good. When you sleep with a guy's best friend, methinks the marriage is over. I want her to get together with McSteamy.
Now, about Callie. I love her too. But do we really see any chemistry with her and George?
And, back to the hospital shoot 'em ups, did you see the previews for next week's House? Yet another gun in the hospital. Don't these places have security?

Apparently not.By the way, on the subject of House/i>, they biopsied Foreman's frontal lobes, but it had no effect other than to make him nice for an ep and a half. He's back to normal now.
And also on the subject of House, beside hospital shootups, a recurring theme on all the med shows seems to be friends sticking friends with large hypodermics -- often, but not always in the bum. (e.g. George on Grey's Anatomy and several characters on ER.) In the case of House, I'm not sure it's fit grounds for flirtation.

In response to Why all the season-enders with hospital shootups? posted by SarahBHood:Come on, House and Cuddy? That was hot! Then again, I'm a House/Cuddy 'shipper, so I'm always rooting for them. What really bothered me about that was that she interrupted him with a patient, "House, NOW!" so he could inject her. How unprofessional is that?
Very odd, the Foreman thing.

In response to Why all the season-enders with hospital shootups? posted by Kwoody3939:More shoot 'em ups. Conviction this time. I was praying for Potter to get killed. Not that it matters since the show has been cancelled. But has there ever been a duller character?
