I for one, am totally on board; give me a good love story any day. Why does this genre get no respect?

Attention romance novel readers! Who’s Afraid of Happy Endings?, directed by Joanna D’Angelo and Christine Alexiou and produced by GAPC Entertainment Inc. in association with Bravo!, examines the realm of romance fiction and its continued popularity March 8 at 8:30pm ET / 5:30pm PT on Bravo!.

Despite the fact that romance is a huge market, the genre is often dismissed as “beach reading” and their readers considered to be pathetic, overweight housewives. This documentary explores the history of romance novels, the many sub-genres and what it takes to make it in the business. It also follows three aspiring romance writers in their quest for success, as well as interviews with already established authors such as Nora Roberts, Jennifer Crusie, Debbie Macomber, Eloisa James and Jo Beverley.

Meet the aspiring writers:

Kelly Boyce, an aspiring writer from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, hungry to sell her first book at a major industry conference.

Kayla Perrin, a contemporary romance author from Hamilton, Ontario, eager to break out of the smaller African-American market and into the mainstream with her first erotica novel.

Kathryn Smith, a historical romance author, now living in Connecticut, embraces her fascination with vampires and makes the leap to paranormal romance as a way to stand out in a competitive market.

Of course I plan on watching.
