Veronica Mars spin off?

What's the future for Veronica Mars?

Rob Thomas, Paul Rudd, some caterers, and other Veronica Mars gabbery.

Hmph. When my shows go on hiatus there isn't that much to blog about. Here's some scoop for Veronica Mars fans: Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars creator/producer) and Paul Rudd (who has a guest spot coming up on the show) are producing (and paying out of their own pocket for) an FX pilot presentation spec. It's about caterers and has an Office feel. (How much you want to bet we're going to be seeing a lot of that in pilot season? The Office part, not the caterers thing.) The pilot spec shoots May 19-24 in Los Angeles.

Hmmm... a spin off of Rudd's character he's set to play in Veronica Mars perhaps? But how can that be? Rudd guest stars on the May 8 episode as "Desmond Fellows" a singer/musician from a 1990s pop band who arrives on the Hearst campus to perform a benefit concert for the radio station. Piz idolizes him and is put in charge of escorting him around campus. So...for the pilot spec Desmond becomes a caterer? How's that work? Pop star turned caterer? Hmmm. Calling Lance Bass.

I'm also hearing - SPOILER ALERT - that Veronica and Piz kiss and perhaps even have a relationship in the remaining episodes of the season. And that she tells Logan he's out of her life forever. NOOO!! How could Rob Thomas do that to us LoVe shippers? Here's my theory: Rob Thomas has said before that "no one ever stays with their college boyfriend." So, we've all been hearing the rumors that if Veronica is renewed it will be fast forwarded to V at the FBI Academy. What if she and Piz do end up together at the end of the show's college days, but then there is a series finale (because let's face it, there isn't much hope this show will be renewed) and she and Logan meet again five years later?

Of course, it will probably be because he's a killer and she's the FBI investigator on the case. Sigh.

Veronica returns Tuesday May 1 at 9pm.
