Monarch Cove; Brothers & Sisters

I gave Lifetime's Monarch Cove a shot this weekend. Both the pilot and the second episode. Oy, what a stinker. This is some of the worst writing on television. The pilot was almost unwatchable. It began in the first scene - we're expected to by that Virginia Williams plays a woman who's been in prison for six years for murdering her father. Please, the only place this girl has been is the beach. She hasn't been to an acting class, let alone prison. So I'm immediately rolling my eyes. Never a good sign. Enter Samantha Shelton as the (I guess) evil sister, and I'm almost asleep. The only thing keeping me awake was wondering who is more boring, Samantha, or her sister Marley. Once SImon Rex and Kieren Hutchinson (who also played Kris's agent on Wildfire) showed up I realized I was watching one of the cheesiest shows on TV. Not even good cheese, and I'm a sucker good cheese. What's life coming to when you can't depend on good cheese on Lifetime? On to a more worthwhile show. Brothers & Sisters is just getting better and better, thanks in no small part to Sally Field. This is really her show; the rest of the actors just populate it. But I do have a couple of gripes. First, isn't this family supposed to be hurting for money right now? If so, how exactly is it that Tommy and Julia can afford in vitro? But even worse, are we really supposed to believe that Dave Annable plays a character that enlisted and went to Iraq? Please, I don't think so. This guy has no edge whatsoever, and yet his time served over there is supposed to be the crux of his character. No way did this guy kill anyone. No way did he ever pick up a gun. The guy wouldn't make it through basic training. Talk about horrible casting. Yikes.Too bad Cam Gigandet is trapped on The OC, and Jon Foster probably had better things to do. (Wrap up Windfall, for one, damn I miss that show). I hope you're keeping up on Brilliant But Cancelled's Death Watch. My vote this week - Vanished.
