Weeds, on Showtime TV, stars Mary Louise Parker as a women who supports her family be getting into the drug trade and in business with unsavory characters.
Weeds has returned to Showtime Premium Cable for its fifth season. Mary Louise Parker stars as Nancy Botwin, the marijuana queen and matriarch of a dysfunctional family living off of marijuana crops and other illegal dealings. Botwin turned to a life of crime after becoming a widow in this dark comedy. Weeds also features Kevin Nealon, Elizabeth Perkins, Justin Kirk, Hunter Parrish, and Alexander Gould. And Allie Grant. Mary Louise Parker as Nancy BotwinMary Louise Parker stars as Nancy Botwin, who supported her family with the produce from her marijuana patch, until a wildfire ruined the crop. In season four Nancy was set up in a border town maternity storefront by a drug contact. Botwin was paid handsomely to run a legitimate storefront, concealing a secret tunnel from Mexico to the U.S Mary Louise Parker, as Nancy Botwin, is the center of this series. Parker’s wide eyed, angelic look, belies the sinister way she makes a living. Her face is a mask that hides her feelings and allows the character to manipulate the people around her. As the viewer watches the character weave a tangled web, it is difficult to know what she is really thinking. In the season four finale, Botwin was in danger of being killed for reporting the trafficking business of her drug lord boyfriend. Just when it looked like it might be the end of the line for Botwin, she pulled a rabbit out of a hat and showed her boyfriend a film from an ultrasound showing that she was pregnant, and told him she could make him very happy. According to press information from Showtime, Alanis Morrisette will guest on the series this summer as an OB Gyn for Nancy Botwin. Whether or not Botwin really is pregnant remains to be seen. It would be like her to figure out an elaborate ruse to fool her boyfriend and save her family. Weeds a Dark ComedyAs befits a dark comic story line, the characters are often not particularly likeable. Kevin Nealon portrays an often creepy buffoon. At the end of season four Nealon tied a rope around his neck in search of a sexual high. The scene was in the season four finale and aired again before season started. In an example of eerie timing, the scene was somewhat reminiscent of one of the theories attempting to explain the death of actor David Carradine in Bangkok. The characters of Weeds are a dysfunctional family of drug dealers with dark personality quirks and a penchant for getting into trouble. The show is not a recommendation for a career path. Weeds is rated M for Mature Audiences. Cast of Weeds
