Gossip Girl – Blair Waldorf and Nate ArchibaldThe CW Teen Drama Recommences Love Triangle of Chuck, Blair & Nate
Upper Eastside Manhattan bedrooms are cluttered with teen characters of Cecily von Ziegesar. As maids work overtime, a new crease is added to the sheets of the story.
The CW series Gossip Girl has received mixed reviews and ratings, but the show about the fictional new money, New York society spoiled rich kids is gaining audiences through rumors about a new plotline. Judging from the most recent episode, it is true what is being said: Three main characters Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford), and Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) are about to recommence a Bermuda Love Triangle. The fictional narrator of Gossip Girl will be busy…Will Blair Waldorf and Nate Archibald get back together? Is Chuck Bass too late? Who belongs with whom? How will developments affect the longtime friendship of Nate and Chuck? Talking about Gossip Girl...Do you need a reminder of past events? What will be the future? Blair and NateNathaniel Archibald and Blair Waldorf were a couple from about the age of twelve or thirteen, but during a drunken day Nate had sex with Blair’s best friend, Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), causing Nate to become more infatuated with wild-child Serena. Following various ups and downs in their relationship, Blair and Nate broke-up, dashing Blair’s hopes for their future. Chuck and BlairThe decadent Charles Bass never seemed to care about anything, perhaps excluding his friendship with Nate. On the eve of her seventeenth birthday, Blair thought she and Nate had finally buried their long suffering relationship. Although depressed and confused she fulfilled her commitment to attend the opening of Chuck’s new club. Unhappy and intoxicated, Blair lost control, deciding to sleep with Chuck in the backseat of his limousine. Feeling ashamed the next morning, Blair wishes to forget the occurrence and unsuccessfully tries to rekindle romance with Nate. Chuck, Blair, and NateThe three troubled teens first fell into a “Lust Triangle” in mid-season one. When Blair’s attempts to preserve her “perfect” match with Nate Archibald seemed smothered, Chuck convinced her that he cared for her, and they entered into a secret sexual relationship. Although Nate was unaware of the identity of Blair’s secret lover, once it seemed that she was unobtainable, Nate again became interested in his former lady love, and he asked to escort her to the cotillion for “old time sake.” Chuck, becoming jealous, attempted to sabotage Blair’s coming out party, and hurt by realizing that Chuck did not care about her happiness, Blair is driven into the arms of Nate. The Love Triangle Is ShatteredHaving slept together for the first time, Nate and Blair reunite, causing Chuck to blackmail Blair into behaving oddly toward her longtime boyfriend. Blair finally calls Chuck’s bluff, causing an angered Chuck to reveal his secret former affair with Blair to Gossip Girl. Blair is horrified and humiliated when the entire school learns of her indiscretion. Nate gets into a fit with Chuck and ends their friendship. Although Nate accuses Chuck of having either drugged or somehow tricked Blair into sleeping with him, Nate coldly discards Balir without telling her that he has any doubt of her guilt. Scorned by Nate, Blair finds herself also insulted by Chuck, who tells her he was onlyu interested in her when she was “untouched.” Comparing her to one of his father’s Arabian horses, he implies that she is sullied, and Blair goes through a period of public degradation. Season One CliffhangerThe friendship of Nate and Chuck was repaired, and Chuck said he was in love with Blair. Apologizing for past insults, Chuck asked Blair to break her journey to France by flying with him to Italy. Although she agreed, he became unwilling to change his playboy ways, so he left her to board the plane alone. Season Two OpenerFollowing a summer with her father in France, Blair returns with a new boyfriend. Chuck soon became jealous, but he was unwilling to admit his feelings for Blair, who eventually broke up with her “summer romance.” Later in the season, Chuck turned Blair and him telling each other their feelings for each other into a game of control, resulting in neither saying what they felt. However, Chuck became destroyed when his father died, and begging Chuck to let her help him, Blair admitted to her feelings for him. Is The Love Triangle Rekindled? The character of Blair Waldorf is often criticized by other characters within the show for her desire to control the outcome of her fate, but, having been unlucky in finding a matrimonial mate, Blair has more recently focused her attentions on getting into Yale University. Finally gaining admittance to Yale, the university attended by her beloved father, Blair was distraught by her acceptance being revoked. Feeling “lost,” her first love, Nate stumbled upon her, causing the pair to have a heart to heart about the past and the present. Nate ensured that Blair got home safely. The episode ended with Blair asking Nate to stay and Chuck realizing that Nate was with Blair. Nate vs. Chuck, Books vs. TelevisionAlthough the television series has created a romance between Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass, the original series of books by Cecily von Ziegesar did not depict a love affair between the two characters. In the books, Blair continued an on and off relationship with Nate, and the two are said to be drawn to each other above anyone else. The television series has already seriously strayed from the book series by portraying Blair as having lost her virginity to Chuck rather than to Nate and by showing Blair as having an on and off again relationship with Chuck. Whatever the CW series decides to do about the love life of Blair Waldorf, the acting ability of Leighton Meester, who plays Blair, remains one of the few assets of the show.
