On Tuesday night's American Idol, the judges did not hold back their comments about the error in judgment some contestants made with their song choices.

The theme for Idol’s Top 9 was iTunes Top 100 downloads, giving this crop of contestants plenty of song choices to choose from. However, some of the contestants still managed to falter. The judges took notice and help nothing back in their comments.

Wrong song for Anoop Desai

Anoop Desai kicked off the show, singing Usher’s hit, “Caught Up”. After his performance, the judges berated Desai for the picking the wrong song.

Judge Kara DioGuardi commented, “When you played Usher, you kind of played it safe like he did. I feel like there wasn't much of a difference.”

Host, Ryan Seacrest gave Desai a chance to respond to DioGuardi’s comments. Desai responded to DioGuardi by saying that he wants to be an R&B singer.

Megan Joy leaves the judges joyless

Megan Joy chose to sing the Bob Marley/Lauryn Hill song, “Turn Your Lights Down Low”.

In her video package before her performance, Joy expressed that her song choice would be something “the judges will dig.”

The judges were less than enthused about her performance, and DioGuardi told the singer she should have sung the Grammy award winner, Adele’s hit song, “Chasing Pavements.”

Judge Randy Jackson said, “It was like watching paint dry.” Joy said that she had picked the song to sing that night, because it was one of her favorite songs.

Scott MacIntyre makes a comeback

The visually challenged singer, Scott MacIntyre redeemed himself after performing Billy Joel’s hit, “Just the Way You Are”.

MacIntyre had hit a rough patch in week’s prior, performing below par in comparison to the other contestants.

This week, he received praise from all the judges, Cowell included. He told MacIntyre that this week had been his best performance throughout the entire competition.

Front runner, Danny Gokey also bounced back from his performance from the previous week, which Cowell had proclaimed to be, “amateurish.”

Singing the Rascal Flatts' hit, “What Hurts The Most”, allowed Gokey to really shine.

Judge Paula Abdul said, “You leave me wanting more.”

Kris Allen steals the show

In weeks prior, it has been contestant Adam Lambert receiving the judge’s highest praise, this week, Kris Allen stole the show with his rendition of Bill Wither’s, “Ain’t No Sunshine”.

Allen’s stripped down version of the song received a standing ovation from the audience.

After Allen’s performance, DioGuardi exclaimed, “I've got three words for you: this is artistry!”

Top 9 becomes the Top 8

After America voted, it was Joy that was eliminated, bringing the contestant count from nine to eight.

Joy had said earlier in the night the judge’s comments from the previous comments didn’t bother her.

When it came time for the judges to announce whether they were going to use their “Judges Save” on her, Cowell directed some parting words to Joy.

“Megan with the greatest respect, when you said you don’t care, nor do we.”

Next week the remaining contestants will be singing songs from the year they were born.

American Idol airs on Tuesday and Wednesday nights on FOX.
