Mark Ruffalo’s brother dies

Scott Ruffalo, the brother of actor Mark Ruffalo (Blindness), died late Monday night after being shot in the head.

"We are releasing very little information at this time, because it is an intense ongoing investigation," Lt. Tony Lee told PEOPLE. "Our first priority is in gaining a conviction."

Beverly Hills Police Sgt. Renato Moreno told the Associated Press that Ruffalo, 39, died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, one week after Ruffalo was shot inside his Beverly Hills condo.

Oprah is 200 lbs – likely has serious New Year’s resolutions

Oprah Winfrey has gained 40 lbs and confesses she is “mad at myself” because she has “fallen off the wagon.”

The 54-year-old Madame Winfrey writes in the January issue of her self-titled O magazine (and released to Associated Press eary): "I'm embarrassed … I can't believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I'm still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, 'How did I let this happen again?' "

Her hypothyroidism made her afraid of exercising. She became frustrated and “started eating whatever I wanted – and that's never good."

In 2006, Winfrey was a svelte 160 lbs and writes to readers, "Yes, you're adding correctly. That means the dreaded 2-0-0."

Suite101 wishes Winfrey a Happy New Year and best wishes for her inevitable much-publicized future dieting.

T.R. Knight wants off the Grey’s Anatomy ship

First, Isaiah Washington made a homophobic slur. Then Katherine Heigl complained that the writers weren’t giving her good storylines. Then Brooke Smith (Dr. Erica Hahn) vanished a few episodes into the latest season. And now it seems Seattle Grace is going to lose another doctor.

T.R. Knight, plays intern George O’Malley, has reportedly asked producers to write him off the medical drama.

While details of his exit are still being battled over, sources are leaking to PEOPLE, ew.com, and eonline, that that Knight’s request will be granted and he will be released from his contract.

Recent reports that Knight has not been attending table-reads for upcoming episodes or that he had walked off the set and cleaned out his dressing room are inaccurate, a rep for Knight told PEOPLE: “He has been there every day. He was at a table read yesterday. He hasn’t said goodbye to anyone.” The rep had no further comment on his possible exit.

So why does Knight want to leave?

“It’s time to move on,” says the source. “It just feels like this is the right time to go.”
