Rey Mysterio Wrestling Star on WWEExclusive Interview with WWE Raw Superstar and WWE Belt Champion
WWE Raw, like all WWE wrestling programs and products, continues its cable TV dominance. We interview Wrestlemania contender Rey Mysterio, WWE wrestling belt veteran.
WWE Raw is a cable ratings phenomenon. WWE's special events, including Wrestlemania, have become capstones to its weekly Raw, Smackdown and ECW prime time shows. WWE has millions of pay-per-view fans, produces its own DVDs, and has hundreds of live events every year, including nearly 100 international matches, plus appearances and charity events. WWE Raw tickets, along with WWE Smackdown tickets, are prized among fans who rarely miss WWE wrestling matches and who flock to the WWE website. To understand WWE Wrestling and its consistent top 10 cable ratings, we talked with one of the top WWE wrestlers, Rey Mysterio. Q: You’ve been WWE wrestling heavyweight world champion, a three-time cruiserweight champion, a four-time tag-team champion, you’ve won the Royal Rumble. What’s left? A: Movies! I would love to do an animated film, something that the family can go watch. With WWE Films now on the way, I would love for it to be a WWE film. It’s a project that has not yet been discussed but I’m hoping they will take an interest in it. WWE Raw Has Incredible Cable RatingsQ: WWE Raw recently had two of the top 10 spots in Nielsen cable ratings. What accounts for its incredible popularity? A: It’s definitely a show that’s based on entertainment and sports, and you have everything – you have the WWE Divas, you have the most competitive superstars in the world of wrestling. You also have the entertainment element, the storylines that bring fans back week after week. The extreme action is one of the keys to our ratings. Q: The storylines really weave the programs together from week to week. So, in addition to being an athlete you’re also an actor in some respects. Is it tough to flip the switch from professional extreme wrestler to TV star? A: No, for me it’s not hard to switch roles. When the mask goes on there’s definitely a character that lives with that mask and you have to play that role. But when the mask comes off there’s also a sensitive side to Rey Mysterio the human being that has to come home to be a father and a husband. Q: When you’re outside the ring and the mask comes off, give us a glimpse of your private life. A: I am a very big family man, and when I come home I love to spend time with my kids, doing homework or reading a book with them. Or even sometimes hanging around in the kitchen with my wife and helping her cook. I also have ordinary daily chores like any other person. I like to sit down, relax, and watch TV, especially the first day home after being on the road. I love watching music videos on BET and MTV. I love movies and every now and then I’ll watch a little CSI. WWE Wrestlers Are Fitness IconsQ: The WWE superstars are extremely fit bodybuilders. What’s your workout schedule like? A: I try to work out at least five days a week. I tend to spend an hour and a half to two hours in the gym daily. I run for 30 minutes and I work out one body part per day. Q: Are you looking for another title? A: Of course! I’m always looking for titles. WWE images © 2009 World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Used with permission.
