These are the four shows you can't miss during this summer season.

Most summer television shows are mindless reality competitions or repeats of your favorites that you’ve already seen. However, these are four programs that will keep you entertained week after week.

1—“So You Think You Can Dance”—There are so many components of this show that make it rise above the rest of the programs in its category. It combines the personal stories and triumphs of the contestants a la “American Idol” and the insightful and witty judges of shows like “Project Runway.” But this dance competition proves that the art form of dance truly is something to treasure. Host Cat Deeley skillfully masters the duties of emceeing the show, and without long you’ll find you’ve fallen in love not only with the dancers, but also with Miss Deeley herself. This show will have you wanting to put on your dancing shoes, and you’ll be eagerly anticipating how well the dancers will perform each week.

2—“30 Days”—Finally a reality show that actually matters. Creator and sometimes star Morgan Spurlock (who we last saw eating McDonalds in “Super Size Me”) has brought his unique passion for making people think to the small screen. Each week’s episode features one person’s journey in the shoes of someone else for 30 days. The second episode of the season saw former NFL star Ray Crockett attempt to live in a wheelchair for a month. He was faced with immense challenges, but gained a whole new perspective. The audience does as well, after watching Spurlock try to live on minimum wage for 30 days, work in a coalmine, and live in a maximum-security prison. The best part of this television show is that the audience is left thinking about the topic long after the hour-long show has ended. Good television is meant to broaden horizons, and “30 Days” does just that.

3—“In Plain Sight”—This new drama from the USA network has taken its place in the pantheon of procedurals with a twist. Mary McCormack stars as Mary Shannon who works as a federal marshal in the Witness Protection program. The setting is in Albuquerque, which adds a different dimension to the show (most are set predictably in larger cities like New York and Los Angeles.) The writing is fast-paced and witty, and McCormack shines as a tough as nails tomboy.

4—“America’s Best Dance Crew”—Most people tend to shy away from shows airing on MTV. However, this show, now in its second season, has more jaw dropping stunts and impressive dancing than any other show on TV right now. Judges JC Chasez, Lil Mama, and Shane Sparks all bring different flavors to this urban competition, as crews battle it out for their bragging rights as the most ‘street’ group. Tune in for the dancing, and stay for the heartfelt stories the individuals share.
