Veronica Mars: Why Logan Will Be Revealed As Lilly's Killer

I'm featuring a guest writer this week, Scott Widney. Scott and I are both fans of UPN's Veronica Mars, but we differ when it comes to the character of Logan Echolls. Being a girl, I'm hoping Logan has a heart of gold and I'm rooting for him and Veronica. I want to believe the best about Logan; Scott, however, feels differently. Every week, he comes up with something new to completely devastate me. Here is his latest.

Why Logan Will Be Revealed as Lilly's Killer

By Scott Widney

1. The beginning and end of "Nevermind the Buttocks" (episode 19) was a clear indication that the show has someone besides Aaron Echolls in mind as the culprit, and they've run way too far with this subplot not to pay it off.

2. To quote Jamie Kennedy's character from the original Scream, "There's always some stupid bullshit reason to kill your girlfriend. That's the beauty of it - simplicity." In this case, Logan had not only a damn good reason, but the perfect fall guy as well. Go back to that episode where V discovers the tape that nails Aaron, and tell me Logan didn't set that up perfectly.

3. Duncan, like Weevil, is always a red herring. As kind of fucked-up cool as it would be to have the guy whom V entrusted with an infant child turn out to be Lilly's killer, I don't see them taking it there. It's too obvious at this point, and nothing would be gained from it. Revealing Logan as the killer, on the other hand, is the one solution that would make sense, satisfy, and not make the end of season one feel like a big jerk-off.

4. Just once I'd like to see Sheriff Lamb get the better of V, and revealing Logan as the killer would be like that times 1,000. She's become way too sure of herself this season, and this would change all of that instantly.

5. Best of all, though V will discover the truth about his involvement, she'll be unable to prove anything, Aaron will be found guilty, and Logan will get away clean. He'll remain a series regular, and their already perverse relationship will become that much more so. In fact, my guess is that on some level she'll be even more attracted to him for the way he beat her at her own game, and he'll take pleasure/pride in the fact that she figured it out, but is powerless to do anything.

"But... but...but," I sputtered to Scott. "What about Logan's pouring his heart out last week ["Looks Who's Stalking" episode 20]?"

"Ahhhh," he said. "Go back and listen to what he really said." Gulp. He said he was sorry. He never actually said what he was sorry for. Plus, he called their relationship "epic," and what could be more epic than if Logan was a murderer?

I have to stop listening to Scott!
