Brooke Shields in Lipstick Jungle: Show Axed?NBC's Underground Cult Favorite Faces Uncertain FutureGreat fashion, interesting plots and gorgeous men surround the main characters of this entertaining show, one of the brightest on NBC's horizon in more than a decade.
Lipstick Jungle is one of the most enchanting shows in years. However, with its recent track record, NBC may not be able to recognize a hit when they have one. For many faithful viewers, Lipstick Jungle fills the void that Sex and the City left behind. But just as the plots are beginning to get juicy, the network has placed it on the chopping block. For those wanting to jump on the bandwagon, here is a rundown of the main characters and plotlines Wendy Healy - The Gotta Have It All MomWendy used to be the head of Parador Pictures (see first season now on DVD) until she forged some medical documents for the star of one of her projects. When he died mid-production, she was fired by the new guy on the block, Griffen Bell. While she encouraged her keyboard playing husband to pursue his own career, she has now started her own production company and is working from home while trying to juggle her stalled career, two children, the house and her husband’s mood swings. As of the last episode, he leaves to tour with Natasha Bedingfield and Wendy is left to deal with maintaining the family and juggle a career on her own. Nico Reilly - The Executive In Search of Her Personal LifeNico started the show by having a torrid affair with Kirby, a budding photographer some fifteen years her junior. Her marriage was a shambles at the time and her husband, Charles, was involved in a relationship with one of his students, Megan. At the beginning of the second season, Charles met his premature death from a heart attack, leaving room for Nico and Kirby’s relationship to blossom. Unfortunately, he also left Megan to raise their child alone, a task she was unable to handle. She consequently left the baby with Nico and Kirby and split. With the daunting task of motherhood dropped in her lap, Nico rose to the challenge and realized her own maternal feelings, but Kirby backed away and their relationship fizzled. Nico works as editor-in-chief of Bonfire magazine, run by the same parent company that runs Wendy’s old studio. Therefore, Griffen Bell, who fired Wendy, is also Nico’s boss. As of the last episode, Nico began exploring her own fertility options and started to see Griffen in a new light, a plot twist that is sure to cause tension between her and Wendy. Victory Ford - The Designer with a Flair for DramaVictory rounds out the threesome as a fashion designer with a chaotic grip on her life. She stated the show with a disastrous failure of her latest clothing line and subsequently she watched her empire slip through her fingers. The only shining light from her dismal fashion show was an attractive on-looker, billionaire Joe Bennett. He took her to dinner and she fell for him hard. He quietly bought her business and got her back on track until she found out he was behind the wave. Driven by pride, she promptly kicked him out of her life and picked up with an equally gorgeous contractor while working on her new studio. When things didn‘t work out with him, she realized that she wanted Joe back, but this time he didn’t want her. Going it alone and back on her feet, a chance meeting brings Joe back into her life. He is rightfully cautious, but as of the last episode, she had made a vow to marry him, even if she has to do the proposing. Friday night is the time to tune in or set the DVD to record and jump on the bandwagon of this fast paced hour of pure entertainment. Ladies can enjoy the man-candy and fabulous fashion while men will get caught up in the beautiful, funny and smart women leads. The dialogue is sharp and interesting and all of the actors are spot on with their characters. While nothing feels out of place or overdone, Lipstick is the perfect show to come home to on a Friday night.
