Leverage picks up where it left off last season. Having disbanded, the group of do-good con artists comes together for one more case, which leads to a second season.
Timothy Hutton stars as Nathan Ford, a former insurance investigator who is now intent on bringing down corrupt people and corporations. After his son died due to neglect, he leaves his job and forms a group of people with various backgrounds to work as a team and bring justice to those in need. The first season ran for 13 episodes and returns for its second season. At the end of last season the team disbanded, having righted many wrongs. Now they join together again for just one more con. But it’s too much fun and the rewards are too great so they decide to start up their little organization once again. Con Artists Who Are Modern Day Robin HoodsMuch in the vain of Mission Impossible or Hustle, this series combines characters with different talents. There is Gina Bellman as Sophie Devereaux, the grifter with a big talent for acting. Viewers might recognize her from the BBC series Coupling. There is Christian Kane as Eliot Spencer, the hitter, or retrieval specialist with excellent fighting experience. There is Aldis Hodge as Alec Hardison, the hacker and technology wiz. There is Beth Riesgraf as Parker, a thief who can steal anything. And leading the group is Nathan Ford (Hutton), who is not only the brains of the organization, but the conscious as well. In the season premier Nate is at the wrong place at the wrong time. He is present at the scene of a car accident and helps the victims safely away from the burning car and to the hospital. Nate discovers the driver is an employee of a bank and the passenger, his daughter, tells him that the brakes had been tampered with. This peaks Nate’s interest and little by little he gets deeper and deeper involved with the situation, with a lot of help and prodding from his team which cannot wait to get back into action. The Team is Excited to Get Back into ActionThe hiatus the crew had from their scheming and stealing served only to increase their appetites for more of what they did last season. They are not content to steal for the sake of stealing. Now that leaves them bored. Today they want to get back into action and right some wrongs by using their talent for good, and not for selfish reasons. The characters are all interesting and interact in a fun way. While at the heart of their escapades is a serious event, they manage to make it humorous for viewers. They’re a fun group of con artists. Viewers do not have to have seen the first season to understand what is going on with these characters. This is not one of those TV shows that is serialized and continued throughout the run of the series. Each episode stands alone. Leverage returns to TNT Wednesday, July 15 2009 at 9 PM ET/PT followed by the new series Dark Blue. For information about Dark Blue, read this article.
