Maggie Lawson stars in this new series of original films based on the Crime of Fashion mystery books by Ellen Byerrum.
Lacey Smithsonian (Maggie Lawson) moved to Washington, D.C. for two reasons, and not because her name matched that of the famous museum. The first was to further her career in journalism. The second was to get away from her boyfriend who claimed to be divorced but in actuality was still married. A Fashion Columnist Who Loves Vintage ClothingLacey landed a job as a fashion columnist who would love to sink her teeth into more than just writing about fashion hits and misses. When one of her friend’s turns up dead she gets her chance, to the dismay of the crime reporter at the paper (Mark Consuelos). Although she doesn’t mean to do so, Lacey manages to get the big story in town. With her fun sense of style (she loves vintage) and her great play on words, Lacey has a popular column. She is known around town and through her columns manages to influence the wardrobe of Washington’s rich and famous. The repartee she and her friends undertake is quick, nonstop, and more often than not, humorous. Death in the SalonAfter a stylist is found dead in the salon where her friend works, the police and the coroner rule it a suicide, but things don’t add up. The victim’s hair had been cut off and is missing. Lacey is drafted by her friend to investigate the situation. The dead woman, like all the stylists in the salon, took pride in her appearance and would never have been caught dead, so to speak, with her hair looking like it did when she died. This is the clue that sets Lacey on the hunt for what really happened. Unfortunately, she comes face to face with her old boyfriend Vic Donovan (Victor Webster) who still has feelings for her, and who is now living in Washington and is most definitely divorced. He is the lead police investigator on the case. A Big Scandal in Washington, D.C.While Lacey navigates the Washington social circle putting clues together, she also navigates a new relationship with Vic. And she comes up against the paper’s tenacious crime reporter, the owner of the salon and his wife (Finola Hughes) as well as the self-proclaimed number one stylist in the salon (Mario Cantone). All through this maze of relationships and clues, Lacey must also meet her fashion column deadline. With the prodding and encouragement of her friends (Sarah Edmondson and Sadie LeBlanc) and her determination, Lacey manages to unravel one of Washington’s biggest scandals since, well, the last scandal. The ensemble in this film is fun to watch as the story unfolds and the clues unravel. Crime of Fashion Mysteries on Lifetime Movie NetworkKiller Hair premiers on Sunday, June 21.
