Finally viewers will be able to know what is really happening on Harper's Island. After all these weeks, the killer and the motive will be revealed.

This thirteen-hour series is unique in that it was scheduled to run only for a single season. If viewers embraced the show with enthusiasm, the producers and network could continue this type of show another season with obviously a new storyline and new cast members, however the plug has been pulled on this show.

Harper’s Island was supposed to be a place for a grand wedding. Instead of the happy event, it has turned into the location where people got killed every week, many in a very gruesome way.

The History of Violence on Harper’s Island

When the characters came to the island, they knew its history. Years ago a killer had made his mark on the island off the coast of Washington. He was supposed to be killed by the sheriff, but in the last episode viewers learned that he was still alive. And he was now back on Harper’s Island and continuing his killing spree.

One by one the characters were killed off. Viewer’s tuned in week after week to see if their favorite character would make it through to another week.

On July 11 the remaining few characters will finally learn why John Wakefield is back and killing all the people who have come to the island for a wedding. Recently he also began killing some of the locals, which was a shock to the characters in the wedding group. That ratcheted up the killings to a whole new level.

An Unconventional Television Series

While the story requires a stretch of the imagination, it is compelling and interesting to see that the main characters are not immune to getting murdered. Usually on a series the main characters are not the ones who get killed, but this is an unusual series.

So, what will happen to the actors who are starring in this unconventional series? Katie Cassidy is scheduled to be in the fall series Melrose Place. She is also in two upcoming films, Fencewalker and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Christopher Gorham is filming a new movie as are several other members of the cast.

Harper’s Island brought a relatively new genre to television. A short run finite story is not usually something producers are excited about because there is no hope for continuation if the show is a big success. Of course they could start a whole new finite storyline, but they would have to start from scratch. Most of these characters are now dead.

The Harper’s Island finale, a 2-hour event, will air July 11 on CBS.

The DVD of the series will be available later this year.
