After the May 19 2009 special preview of the new series Glee, viewers have anxiously waited through the summer for the show to begin. The wait is over.

On Wednesday, September 2 2009 at 8:58 PM ET/PT the original pilot of Fox’s new series Glee airs with never-before-seen footage and starts the season off. The series is a combination comedy/musical, as the new Glee club is formed at William McKinley High School and the different groups at the school take their stances for or against the singer.

Jane Lynch is Sue Sylvester, the leader of the Cheerios, a highly competitive no-nonsense cheering squad. Her goal is to take her team to another championship and sees the Glee club as a nuisance. She is intent on doing everything she can to crush the singers and eliminate that club from the school.

Matthew Morrison is Will Schuester, the eager young teacher who takes on the job of leading the Glee club. A former singer himself, he is excited about forming the new club.

The pilot episode sets up the foundation for the season, pitting the glee club against the cheer squad and the football team. But with one member of the football team, Finn (played by Cory Monteith) joining the Glee club, the lines get blurred. His girlfriend is the head cheerleader.

In the second episode which airs Wednesday, September 9 at 9 PM ET/PT, the Schuesters get a stunning surprise. Actually it is Mrs. Schuester who gets the surprise and wrestles with herself about telling her husband.

And with Finn getting closer to glee member Rachel Berry (played by Lea Michele) his girlfriend Quinn (played by Dianna Agron) feels the only way to keep his attention is to join the singing group. So Quinn and two fellow cheerleaders audition for the club. This sets up a new strategy for Sue Sylvester who sees them not as cheerleaders who also sing, but as cheerleaders who will spy for her.

Also, behind the scenes, the forbidden romance between Will Schuester and school counselor Emma Pillsbury (played by Jayma Mays) starts to heat up a bit.

And the glee club needs to attract more singers if they are going to have the number of members to compete, so they perform for the first time in front of the student body. They change their rehearsed number for something they feel will attract more members from the school. Even though Will had chosen a Disco number, the team goes behind his back to come up with something a bit sexier.
