Fall Pilot Preview ContinuesMore TV show pilots to skip
The latest in TV show pilots to skip: Brothers & Sisters, Jericho, Til Death, and Traveler.
I continue my series of television pilots to watch and those to skip. Last week I covered two favorites and one to ignore; this week, more to skip. Don't waste your time on Brothers & Sisters, Jericho, Til Death, or Traveler. Brothers & Sisters is "the Calista Flockart show with all those other people in it." Ok, it's actually about a Mary Matalin-esque conservative talk show host who returns home for her dad's birthday which just happens to coincide with a job interview. She gets the job, but her dad dies. Now she has to hang around with her family a lot. And they have lots of secrets. And no one is interesting. And watching this show is torture. Granted, ABC has done a complete overall, so perhaps the show is better. It certainly couldnt get much worse. Jericho was considered to be pretty cool while it was casting, but the end result is just...cold. Bitterly boring. It should get a frosty reception. Ok, enough. The problem with this show is that even the premise doesn't sounds interesting. A nuclear attack destroys the world except one small town. Why that town? Why those people? What secrets are they hiding? Etc. Fill in Lost analogy here. Again, to be fair, I hear CBS is revamping. I, for one, won't bother to see if they succeeded in making this show at all interesting. Til Death I actually haven't seen, but early industry buzz says it's awful, and a kind informant confirmed that with me. Not being a Brad Garrett fan anyway, I'll pass. Which brings me to Traveler, a mid-season replacement on ABC. This is another pilot that had a ton of buzz while casting. Three cute 20-something guys decide to pull a pank - they'll rollerblade through the Met in NYC. But the prank goes horribly wrong when a terrrorist picks that same day to bomb the museum, leaving two of our three guys as top suspects. But what happened to the third guy? Who was Will Traveler? Etc. Secrets abound. Blah blah blah. Yes, it sounds good. Even while writing this I'm wondering why I hated the pilot so much. And then I remember,Oh yeah, it wasn't about anything. Just two guys running around with the cops after them. A sort of modern day Dukes of Hazzard with no Daisy. Skip it. More next week!
