Season 3 ended on a surprising note leaving fans of Lost with more questions than answers. In February 2008, Lost Season 4 hopes to bring enlightenment to loyal viewers.

With less than a month a way, fans of Lost, the hit TV series telling the twisted and entwined stories of fourty-something plane crash survivors, will be back on the air - this time around, the survivors do get rescued. Fans can expect a whole new dimension to the storyline after the close of Season 3; new characters and mysteries; and perhaps, more answers to the never ending Dharma puzzle.

Will the Lost Survivors still experience flashbacks?

The close of Season 3 ended on a surprising note for viewers. The customary flashbacks that the Lost Survivors experienced since the beginning of the crash usually translated into memories of the past and how they haunted them when stranded on the mysterious island. They were also entwined with each other, giving clues as to their journeys that led them to board the same flight. However, in the last episode of Season 3, the flashbacks that spinal surgeon, Jack Shepard (Matthew Fox), were experiencing turned out to be flash-forwards of his life after his rescue from the island. This was not known until the last scene where his desperate phone call to a "friend" that he needed to speak to turned out to be a secret rendezvous with fugitive Kate Ryan (Evangeline Lilly). Jack tells Kate that he has been trying to get back to the island and that they should never have been rescued.

Viewers wonder whether this trend will continue - will the Lost Survivors experience tragic flash-forwards while waiting for their rescue or will they be rescued and experience flashbacks of their experiences on the island.

The new characters in Lost Season 4

The second last episode of Season 3 introduced an eerie Jacob, who the leader of the Others, Benjamin Linus (Michael Emerson), describes as the man who knows all the answers to the questions posed by spiritual man, John Locke (Terry O'Quinn). Jacob will definitely make more of an appearance in the upcoming season, and who knows, maybe more of his clan will spring from the darkness. Other new characters may include the rescue mission and the true meaning of their search of the island. The reason why Benjamin was so adamant on keeping them at bay was because they, according to him, were the bad guys.

Fans can also expect reappearances of former characters such as father and son Michael (Harold Perrineu) and Walt (Malcolm David Kelley). Many hope that Dominic Monaghan's character, Charlie Pace, is brought back to life.

Would there be more answers about the mysteries of the island?

With the emergence of Jacob and John Locke's persistence to remain on the island, the writers would definitely be unraveling a little bit more about the island's history. Since John Locke is the iconic character in Lost, the story-line will still bend around his quests to delve for answers on the island and his refusal to return "home."

More answers will be surface with regards to the rescue mission - who are they and what do they want with the island and its inhabitants - both the Lost Survivors as well as the Others.
