Two veteran actors join forces on the second season of Crash on Starz.

This is the second season of the show Crash and the second season for actor Dennis Hopper. This season Eric Roberts joins the cast. At the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, both hopper and Eric Roberts talked about the show and their experiences.

“I'm really enjoying it,” Hopper says enthusiastically. “I'm playing a Phil Spector-type music mogul who has orgies, plays with guns and knives, and abuses drugs and alcohol. So it's a really interesting character. And the cast has been incredible. I've really enjoyed doing it. It's hard work, but yeah, it's all right with me. As long as I can direct a movie in my off time, it will be fine.”

Dennis Hopper and Eric Roberts Talk about Each Other’s Films

The two actors were asked which of the others’ films stand out in their minds. Dennis Hopper immediately answered, “Pope of Greenwich Village,” referring to Roberts’ 1984 movie.

Roberts answers the question this way. “It sounds like a pat answer because everybody loves the movie so much, everybody knows the movie, but Easy Rider (1969) is up there with Beckett. I mean, it's one of those contemporary movies that was way ahead of its time and even now holds up. And Dennis kicked ass.”

Dennis Hopper confided, “We did a movie together too.” In 1989 Hopper and Roberts starred in the film Blood Red. “We don't want to talk about that, Dennis,” Roberts quickly jumped in. “We don't talk about that, Dennis. [It was a] terrible movie. I made a couple.” Hopper said, “I made more than a couple.” The two obviously had fun teasing each other about their choice in films over their long careers. Eric Roberts started acting professionally in the mid 1970s, and Dennis Hopper began his career in the mid 1950s.

The Differences between Films and TV

About the difference between working on a feature film and in a television series, Dennis Hopper explained it this way. “Well, you don't have as much time, but I've worked in a lot of independent films through the years, so it doesn't get that much different. I've had a lot of dialogue in this series, so that's been the most difficult part for me. Beyond that, we work 15, sometimes 17 hours, but we have a great crew. Never heard anyone complain, except me. But nobody listens to me, so it's okay. But we the crew and the cast are just wonderful. Yeah, I'm having a joyous time, even though it's difficult. But we have our three days off and four days off every two weeks, whatever. So it's a nice schedule.”

Other veteran actors joining the cast this year are Tess Harper, Valerie Perrine, and Keith Carradine.

The second season of Crash premiers Friday, September 18 on Starz.

I read over at navtones that the new season of Crash has Dennis Hopper returning as the newly-sober music producer Ben Cendars?

It's a really cool read. I also had to get Dennis Hopper as the voice on my GPS while there. Hopper's the man!
