Does Whedon's one-time gig as director of popular TV show mean it's lights out for Dollhouse?
In a sign that everything old can eventually be new again, Benjamin Bratt, the actor who has been largely absent from the primetime television landscape for the better part of a decade, is returning to the medium that made him famous. Bratt Back at Law & OrderBratt, who has starred in indie films and spent time with his wife, actress/model Talisa Soto and their children, will return to Law & Order for at least one episode. EW.com is also reporting that Pratt will reprise his role as Detective Rey Curtis, the post that won him legions of fans, for one episode in a storyline involving S. Epatha Merkerson’s character, Van Buren. If fans had a say, Bratt would be back for much, much longer and his presence would probably give the long-running “ripped-from-the-headlines” drama a much-needed ratings boost. Joss Whedon Happy to Direct GleeJoss Whedon the genius writer, director and creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and its extraordinary “Once More, With Feeling” musical episode), Dollhouse, and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog has confirmed reports that he has signed on to direct an episode of Glee. On his blog Whedon answers the question (and jokes): “Why GLEE? Because I love cops, serial killers and gritty urban drama (I haven't seen the show yet). Why me? Because they're struggling and can't afford real directors.” Whedon Threatens to Kill Principal Figgins! He deadpans: “ Whom will I kill? When will that go away? Is death really the only thing I'm known for? I'd hope not. You know how many people in the world actually die? ALL OF THEM. You know how many I've killed? Statistically, somewhat fewer. Can't we focus on another element of my work? Having said that, probably Principal Figgins. (No! I kid! God.)” “Joss directed one of the great musical episodes in the history of television on Buffy,” Glee creator Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck) tells Entertainment Weekly, “so this is a great, if unexpected, fit. I’m thrilled he’ll be loaning us his fantastic groundbreaking talent.” Dollhouse a Victim of Weak RatingsWhere does that leave Dollhouse? According to reports this week, Fox is pulling Dollhouse during November sweeps period and the show will return in December, airing in back-to-back episodes on Friday nights. There’s no guarantee it will survive beyond that. Whedon will fulfill his commitment to wrap the 13-episodes of Dollhouse and step over to the Glee set likely knowing that the lights are off for good in the show that stars Buffy alum, Eliza Dushku.
