Worst Couples on Television

Some television shows are ruined by bad coupling.

Enough already!

No couples discussion would be complete without a list of the worst couples on television. Some of these couples were ill-conceived, and some I just stopped caring about. Either way, it's a problem.

Lucas & Brooke (One Tree Hill): I never liked them as characters and I never understood them together. I always thought he should be with Peyton. Perhaps this is a good example of a show ruined by real-life love (see Vaughn & Syd below). These two have nothing in common. I stopped watching this show once this couple started heating up. Then again, with Chad Michael Murray becoming such a joke, and this show likely to be cancelled, does it really matter?

Bright & Hannah (Everwood): She has to be the most annoyingly pious character currently on TV. He's the bad boy who inexplicably falls for her. No way am I buying that. Having said that, I'm still hoping that the CW picks this show up. Although they didn't make my list of favorites, I like Amy & Ephram as a couple. Almost enough to sit through the shmoopfest that is Bright & Hannah.

Sam/Martin/Jack (Without a Trace): Martin can do better than Sam, the homewrecking slut. The epitome of the girl I hated in high school. I'm sure it's hard to meet people outside of work since she works such long hours, but could Sam at least try to sleep with someone who isn't a co-worker? Plus, I'm not sure who I am supposed to root for in this scenario. Personally, if the slut is going to sleep with someone in the workplace, I'd rather it be Martin. But in interviews, Poppy Montgomery always talks about Sam and Jack, so maybe that's where this is headed. Or maybe that's just Poppy M wanting her character to be with the lead.

Kris/Junior/Matt: (Wildfire): I tried to care, I really did. But Junior is too pretty, and Matt a naïve dullard. Kris deserves better. Anyone who saw the pilot, wanted her with Matt. He was actually kind of sexy and likeable, and Junior was just a pretty jerk. I'm not sure when the decision was made to put her with Junior in a kind of Romeo & Juliet thing. Quite possibly it was when producers realized that Micah Alberti (Matt) was a whiny idiot who couldn't act, whereas at least Ryan Sypek (Junior) understands the jokes. I still think Kris can do better.

Seth & Summer, Ryan & Marissa (The OC ): Zzzzzzzzzzz. I kind of like Marissa with her new guy. Although I really don't care about Marissa at all. Actually, I don't care about this show at all.

Vaughn & Sydney (Alias): Two seasons ago they would have been on my favorite couples list. But between their real-life break-up, Vaughn dying, and Alias time schedule changes, I just stopped caring. Although I will of course watch this final stretch of episodes quietly praying that Vaughn is still alive.
