Television Takes Inside Look at Madison Square Garden in New York

Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show gathers 2,500 of American champion canines at Madison Square Garden in New York every year, an event that creates excitement among dog lovers. The 133rd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show will be held on February 9-10 and aired on USA network. Prior to the airing of the dog show, CNBC will present an inside look at Westminster.
This year CNBC presents "American Originals: Westminster Dog Show" which takes viewers along on an inside look at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
American Originals: Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show
- Gets up close and personal with 2008 champion beagle, Uno.
- Visits New York's Pennsylvania Hotel to view the $10,000 indoor puppy spa and workout area where dogs are prepared to compete in the prestigious dog show.
- Talks to owners, trainers and judges to find out what it takes to be a champion.
- Explores the history of the Westminster Kennel Club from its roots in the bar of New York's Hotel Westminster in 1876 to the show it has become.
- The show talks about how owners spend thousands of dollars to train, groom, and travel their dogs to competitions around the country to vie for Westminster's ultimate prize: Best in Show!
Uno the Beagle
Uno captured the fancy of Americans and the worlds when the adorable beagle was the first of his breed to win the 2008 Westminster Kennel Club Show. According to a November 26, 2008 article in the International Herald Tribune Americas, the Global Edition of the New York Times, Uno has had a busy year.
- Uno has appeared at major league baseball games in St. Louis, Missouri and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
- Uno had a day declared in his honor in his home state of Illinois
- Uno met the family of Peanuts comic strip creator, Charles Schultz. The comic character, Snoopy, was Uno’s ink-on-paper beagle forebear.
- Uno appeared on the Peanuts float in the Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.
- Uno starred in the Macy’s Petacular, a fashion show for animals in March.
- Uno appears to love the applause and the attention heaped on him and people seem to relate to him as a type of underdog champion.
The CNBC program promises to get up close and personal with last year’s champion and find out what his future plans are as his reigning years comes to a close.
CNBC will premiere “American Originals: Westminster Dog Show” will premiere on February 5, 2009 at 9 pm ET. The show will also air on:
