133rd Annual Westminster Dog Show

The 133rd annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show will be taking place on February 9- 10, 2009 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Portions of the show will be televised on USA Network and on CNBC on the same evenings. America’s first and only champions only dog show is limited to entries of 2,500 purebred canines.
170 breeds and varieties of dogs will be judged in seven different groups on Monday and Tuesday during the day. The winners of the breeds will be in the group competitions televised live those same evenings.

Monday night’s show will be televised on USA Network. On Tuesday night the finales will be televised on CNBC.
Monday, February 9 on USA Network 8-9 PM ET
- Hound Group: Includes Afghan Hound, Basenji, Basset Hound, Beagle, Coonhound, Bloodhound, Borzoi, Dachshund, Foxhound, Greyhound, Harrier, Ibizan Hound, Irish Wolfhound, Norwegian Elkhound, Otterhound, Pettis Bassets Griffons Vendeen, Pharaoh Hound, Plott, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Saluki, Scottish Deerhound, and Whippet.
- Terrier Group: Includes Airedale, American Staffordshire, Australian, Bedlington, Border Bull, Cairn, Dandie Dinmont, Fox, Glen of Imaal, Irish, Kerry Blue, Lakeland, Manchester, Miniature Bull, Miniature Schnauzer, Norfolk, Norwich, Parson Russell, Scottish, Sealyham, Sky, Soft Coated Wheaten, Staffordshire Bull, Welsh and West Highland White Terrier.
- Non-Sporting Group: Includes American Eskimo, Bishon Frise, Boston Terrier, Bulldog, Chinese Shar-Pei, Chow Chow, Dalmatian, Finnish Spitz, French Bulldog, Keeshond, Lhasa Apso, Lowchen, Poodle, Schipperke, Shiba Inu, Tibetan Spaniel and Tibetan Terrier.
- Herding Group: Includes Australian Cattle Dog, Australian Shepherd, Bearded Collie, Beauceron, Belgian Malinois, Belgian Sheepdog, Belgian Tervuren, Border Collie, Bouviers des Flandres, Briard, Canaan Dog, Collie, German Shepherd, Old English Sheepdog, Polish Sheepdog, Puli, Shetland Sheepdog, Swedish Vallhund, Cardigan Welsh Corgi and Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
Tuesday, February 10 on CNBC 9 – 11 PM ET
- Sporting Group: Includes Brittany, Pointer, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Coated Retriever, Flat Coated Retriever, Flat Coated Retriever, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, English Setter, Gorden Setter, American Water Spaniel, Clumber Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel, English Springer Spaniel, Field Spaniel, Irish Water Spaniel, Sussex Spaniel, Welsh Springer Spaniel, Spinone Italiano, Vizsla, Weimaraner and Wirehaired Pointing Griffon.
- Working Group: Includes Akita, Alaskan Malamute, Anatolian Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog, Black Russian Terrier, Boxer, Bullmastiff, Doberman Pinscher, Dogue de Bordeaux, German Pinscher, Giant Schnauzer, Great Dane, Great Pyrenees, Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Komondor, Kuvasz, Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, Newfoundland, Portuguese Water Dog, Rottweiler, Samoyed, Siberian Husky, St. Bernard, Standard Schnauzer and Tibetan Mastiff.
- Toy Group; Includes Affenpincher, Brussels Griffon, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel,Chihuahua, Chinese Crested, English Toy Spaniel, Havanese, Italian Greyhound, Japanese Chin, Maltese, Manchester Terrier, Miniature Pinscher, Papillon, Pekinese, Pomeranian, Toy Poodle, Pug, Shih Tzu, Silky Terrier, Toy Fox Terrier and Yorkshire Terrier.
- Best in Show
Best in Show
The Best of Show is the grand finale of Westminster, when the winners of the seven different groups will compete against each other. It is always amazing to see the judging of Best in Show, with the very different dogs compete as the judge determines which is the best standard of their breed.
In 2008 Uno the Beagle rose to fame as the first Beagle to win the Best of Show at Westminster. Uno, who has had a busy year making appearances, will make an appearance as his reign passes on to the next Best of Show.
